Smaller pours, same exposure
The lakes in JLT are man-made, but the ground under them is still coastal, with shallow saline groundwater. A new lift pit, a sump, a podium extension or a ramp repair at basement level meets the same chlorides and sulphates as the original raft did. A 6 m³ pour below ground deserves the same mix design logic as a 600 m³ one: GGBS substructure mix, low water/cement ratio, and the cover your engineer specifies.
Where a buried element is being repaired, match the exposure class of the original design, not the size of the job.
Fit-out and podium work
Inside the towers, the common orders are screed for floor levelling and fibre-reinforced concrete for slabs on grade, plant room bases and podium toppings where the engineer wants to limit early cracking. Screed needs a consistent workability so it can be pumped up through the building and finished to level. Fibre-reinforced mixes reduce plastic shrinkage cracking but do not replace structural reinforcement unless the design says so.
Access is the hard part. JLT clusters share service roads and loading bays, and building management sets delivery windows. Check with the cluster management before booking, then we size the trucks and pump to that window.
Getting the concrete there
From the plant in Al Quoz, JLT is about 11 km in a straight line, reached from Sheikh Zayed Road. Peak traffic adds time, so the retarder dose reflects the expected travel. Summer pours on exposed podium decks go better at night or early morning, with curing started as soon as the surface can take it.
Questions from Jumeirah Lake Towers (JLT) sites
- Can I order a small volume for a basement repair in JLT?
- Call +971 52 998 9988 with the volume and element. Small buried repairs still get a substructure mix designed for saline exposure.
- Is fibre-reinforced concrete a substitute for rebar?
- Only if your structural engineer designs it that way. In most podium and slab work, fibres control early cracking and the rebar carries the load.
- Who sets delivery hours in JLT?
- Usually the cluster or building management. Confirm the window with them first.
