Distance is a mix design input
Concrete keeps hydrating in the drum. Over a long run on Expo Road or Emirates Road, especially in summer or at peak hours, slump drops before the truck arrives. We set a retarder dose for the travel time and the pour hour, and agree a target slump at discharge, not at loading.
For long pours, book the sequence ahead so trucks arrive at an even spacing. Waiting trucks lose workability; gaps in supply create cold joints.
Pavements and slabs around the airport logistics zones
Logistics plots near Al Maktoum airport need large external hardstands and warehouse floors. These slabs take repeated heavy wheel loads and full sun. A fibre-reinforced mix limits early cracking and improves surface resistance; joints and thickness come from the pavement designer.
On wide open sites plastic shrinkage is the first threat to a fresh slab. Pour at night or early morning, protect from wind, and start curing as soon as finishing allows.
Loading docks and dock levellers concentrate loads at the slab edge. Those edges usually get extra reinforcement or thickening, and a careful finish so the leveller plates sit flat.
New residential phases and the Expo City district
Housing phases start with blinding, footings and ground beams in desert sand, then frames in the superstructure mix. The master developer controls access, delivery hours and routes inside each phase and inside Expo City, so check with them before booking. A 120 m³ podium slab is ten truckloads, which we plan with the pump crew in advance.
Ground beams in sand are straightforward, but trenches left open overnight fill with wind-blown sand. Clean them out before blinding or the beam sits on loose material.
Questions from Dubai South sites
- Will the concrete still be workable after the trip to Dubai South?
- Yes, if we know the pour time and any expected wait. The retarder dose is set for that, and the slump target is agreed for discharge.
- Can you supply a large hardstand pour overnight?
- The plant runs 24/7. Send the volume and bay plan and we schedule trucks and pumps through the night.
- Do you deliver to Expo City sites?
- Yes, once access is arranged. The district management controls entry and delivery hours, so confirm both before booking.
