Light industry: the floor is the foundation for the equipment
In a light industrial unit, the ground-bearing slab carries racking legs, forklifts and machinery bases. Point loads and wheel traffic decide its thickness, and joints decide how long it lasts. A fibre-reinforced mix improves resistance to early cracking and can reduce mesh, if the designer allows it.
Flatness tolerances are set by the equipment supplier and the specification. We support them with a consistent slump and setting time across every load, so the finishing crew is not chasing a slab that stiffens unevenly.
Before the slab, the subgrade has to be compacted and tested. A good mix cannot fix a soft spot under it, and floor cracks often trace back to the ground, not the concrete.
Campuses and residential blocks
Office and residential buildings here are framed in reinforced concrete: raft or piled foundations, then columns, cores and slabs. The ground is inland, so most foundations are designed around load rather than saline exposure, but the soil report and exposure class on the drawings still govern.
Large floor plates on campuses often need transfer slabs where the column grid changes. These are thick, heavily reinforced and poured in one go. We plan them as a sequence of 12 m³ loads with a retarder dose chosen so there are no cold joints in the middle of the slab.
Fit-out screeds
Raised floors and finishes need a level base. Our screed mix is laid over the structural slab to bring it to level. It is not structural and should be cured like any other cement product in the heat.
Leave the screed to cure before laying sensitive floor finishes, and keep it out of direct sun and draughts in the first days so the surface does not craze.
Questions from Dubai Silicon Oasis sites
- How far is Dubai Silicon Oasis from your plant?
- About 15 km in a straight line from Al Quoz, usually by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road or Al Ain Road. Traffic at peak hours lengthens the trip, which we cover with the retarder dose.
- Can you pour a transfer slab at night?
- Yes, we are open 24/7, and night pours are often the best choice in summer to stay within placing-temperature limits.
- Do you supply concrete for residential towers in DSO too?
- Yes: substructure mixes for rafts and piles, and superstructure mixes for columns, cores and slabs, to the grades in your specification.
